Like ants at a picnic, the inevitable grocery bags overflowing with school work make their way into your home at the end of the school year. Here are 4 steps to manage, organize, and contain the work.
Step 1: Gather
Collect all the school items in one area in your home. A large open floor space works best. Include: artwork, projects, worksheets, tests, official school photos, sports photos, and report cards.
Step 2: Sort
Create separate piles by sorting the items into different categories.
Step 3: Select
Select the items from each category that best represent the school year. Set a limit to the number of items you keep. For example, two favorite drawings, two test sheets, etc. For 3-D artwork that is going to disintegrate over time, take a photo of your child holding the artwork and include the photo in the photo category. An app like www.artkiveapp.com is a clutter-free solution to save and enjoy your child’s artwork if you want to store your photos digitally.
Step 4: Store
You can use a binder system or hanging folder system. Place the selected items either in individual sheet protectors for placement in a binder or place the items directly in a box bottom hanging file and place the files into a mobile hanging file box.
To set up a binder system, you’ll need:
Hanging folder system
To set up a handing folder system, you will need:
Give children the time to enjoy and appreciate all that they have accomplished during the school year. Take time to celebrate the year’s accomplishments.
