My family and friends live scattered around the world. And because we have to deal with different time zones, I have become quite used to scheduling social phone chats with my parents, sisters, and friends. I am not talking about the quick pick-up-the-phone chat to say “hi,” but long phone chats when nobody has work distractions or will be distracted by the needs of little children so that we can have a proper catch-up.
Recently, I used the same strategy with two local friends. Even though we live close enough to meet up for a cup of coffee or a walk and a chat, our schedules never seem to sync up and so I offered to call each of them one evening for a catch-up over the phone.
Here was one of their responses: “How would Monday at 7:30 be for you? I just love that you would offer to schedule a call. I have people in my life who would not be able to appreciate the concept,”
Time-management question of the day: Would you or would you not schedule social phone calls?
